Amateur radio is a great hobby. It’s a technical hobby that enables and encourages people to learn a use scientific knowledge. It can be used like a sport and there are regular competitions and contests. It is a hobby that gives people the inspiration to push boundaries – If it wasn’t for SOTA (summits on the air) i may not have made it to the top of some very large hills. Amateur radio is also a hobby that brings people together, there are clubs all over the country, actually all over the world. It’s also a hobby that connects people. I have spoken with people all over the world and some of them are now friends.
I’ve run special events and taken part in others, I’ve been part of a team that helped provide communications for an event in a place where modern technology such as mobile phones just doesn’t work. I’ve had amazing holidays and all round had a great time. You could too.
